Fusion-fission hybrid tokamak reactor for the production of fissile fuel and electric energy

  • 1. Gosudarstvennyj Komitet po Ispol'zovaniyu Atomnoj Ehnergii SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Atomnoj Ehnergii

Description

A preliminary design is presented of a 6900MW fusion-fission hybrid tokamak reactor, FFHR, which will produce approximately 4200kg of plutonium per year as fissile fuel for thermal reactors. The required plasma characteristics are not much extrapolated beyond those in existing or projected tokamak facilities. In addition, the necessary level of the engineering technologies of the electromagnetic systems and injectors will be achieved in the near future. The parameters of FFHR have, therefore, been chosen to reduce the unknown factors and to simplify the construction of the first experimental-commercial hybrid reactor. (author)
