Bituminization of simulated PWR type reactor wastes, boric evaporator bottons and ion exchange resins, carried out in CNEN/SP using commercial bitumen available in the Brazilian market

Description
The first results of the study of bituminization of simulated PWR wastes, boric evaporator bottons and spent ion-exclange resins (OH-, H+) and incinerated ash-wates are presented and discussed. The study consisted of characterization of the commercial bitumen, locally available and bitumen wastes products of varying whight compositions. The characterization was carried out using standard analysis methods of ABNT and ASTM, and included measurement of, penetration, softening point and flash point. In addition, the bitumen samples were analized for their resin and asphaltene contents. For leaching studies, wastes products of bitumen and resin loaded with 134Cs were utilized. The method used was according to the ISO norms. The simulation of the industrial process was carried out using an extruder-evaporator typically used in the plastic industries offered by Industria de Maquinas Miotto Ltda., Sao Bernardo do Campo - SP. Os primeiros resultados do estudo sobre a betuminizacao de rejeitos radioativos tipicamente gerados em reatores tipo PWR, lamas de evaporador (boradas) e resinas de troca ionica (OH-, H+), e cinza de rejeitos solidos combustiveis, sao aqui relatados e discutidos. O trabalho visou ensaiar amostras representativas de betumes comercializados no mercado brasileiro fazendo a caracterizacao destes e dos produtos obtidos na imobilizacao dos rejeitos variando sua porcentagem massica no produto final, pelos testes padronizados (ABNT e ASTM) para: Ponto de Fulgor, Ponto de Amolecimento, Penetracao. Dados complementares sobre teor de resinas e asfaltenos para os betumes ensaiados tambem foram obtidos. Para estudo de lixiviacao foi utilizado produto de betume e resina de troca ionica marcados com 134Cs. O metodo seguido foi o sugerido pela norma ISO. Realizou-se ainda a simulacao do processo industrial empregando uma Extrusora-Evaporadora tipica para trabalho com plasticos cedida pela Industria de Maquinas Miotto Ltda, de Sao Bernardo do Campo-SP.
