Description

Using methods of light metallography and transmission electron microscopy the regularities of structural transformations are investigated in a 0.2 μ thick surface layer of Ni3Al single crystals on irradiation with high power ion beams. Specific features of surface relief formation, changes of phase composition and defect substructure in the layer are studied depending on ion beam power density in the range of Q ∼ (5-10) x 107 W/cm2. With the use of numerical calculation data for temperature field dynamics, surface layer melting and evaporation an analysis is accomplished to reveal main factors and mechanisms of phase structural modification of material surface under above-mentioned conditions
