Decommissioning of B204 reprocessing plant

  • 1. British Nuclear Fuels plc, Sellafield (United Kingdom)

Description

The Decommissioning Programme at Sellafield comprises facilities grouped into 22 projects. Four are currently undergoing practical Dismantling with the other 18 at various stages of the planning, design and engineering process. This paper gives an overview of the decommissioning requirement and a description of the proposals for the first phase of the former Primary Separation Plant, B204, at Sellafield. The project's size and complexity will give rise to a wide range of technical and radiological problems typically associated with decommissioning. The scope of the project is to remove process plant; vessels, pipework, steelwork and to decontaminate the residual building structure to meet Low Level Waste criteria. The project is being divided into nine distinct phases with a global cost of pound 67M. (author)
