Target for spallation neutron sources

Description

The target material is arranged at the circumference of a rotating wheel with a diameter of about 2,5m. The wheel is permanently cooled by water. The interior of the wheel is shielded against the vacuum of the accelerator channel region by means of a jacket. This jacket of Al, Zr or Ti has the effect of an inlet window for the proton beam. The target itself can be cooled by means of involute-shaped coolant ducts. (RW)

Abstract (German)

Das Targetmaterial ist am Umfang eines rotierenden Rades von ca 2,5m Durchmesser angeordnet. Das Rad wird innen mit Wasser gekuehlt. Das Radinnere ist mittels eines Mantels gegen das Vakuum im Bereich des Beschleunigerkanals abgeschirmt. Dieser Mantel aus Al, Zr oder Ti wirkt als Eintrittsfenster fuer den Protonenstrahl. Das eigentliche Target kann mittels evolventenfoermiger Kuehlmittelkanaele gekuehlt werden. (RW)
