An extension of a high temperature creep model to account for fuel sheath oxidation

  • 1. Comitato Nazionale per l'Energia Nucleare, Rome (Italy)

Description

A model is developed for the creep of Zircaloy in an oxidising atmosphere. Oxidation produces an outer layer of zirconia, separated from the central region by an oxygen-stabilised zone of α phase. The central region, at sufficiently high temperatures, is of β phase. The model shows good agreement with experimental data. (author)
