Nuclear power planning study for Pakistan

Description

The study, completed in October 1973, indicated an appreciable nuclear power capacity requirement in the country in the 1980s. However, the overall position was drastically changed a few months later as a result of a three- to four-fold increase in oil prices and some rise in the cost of nuclear plants. Consequently, the PAEC requested the IAEA to help carry out a detailed re-analysis of the role of nuclear power, based upon the latest economic and technical information and the most recent basic data and power needs, population growth and economic development programme in Pakistan. The whole analysis was redone with the help of the much improved methodology available in mid-1974 and with full participation by Mr. Ahmad. The details of this study are reported in the present document. The main results are given in the Summary
