Effect of temperature photoluminescence properties of ZrO2

Full text: This work describes the photoluminescence (PL) of zirconium oxide (ZrO2) particles synthesized using the complex polymerization method (CPM). They were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence measurements (PL). Photoluminescence (PL) is a principal process in photochemistry and, recently, the PL properties of metal oxides have attracted great interest. However, reports on the PL properties of particles ZrO2, especially on the UV-blue PL properties, have been rarely found. The XRD result shows a stabilization of the tetragonal phase of ZrO2. PL emission spectra were also recorded and are investigated. When the material was excited by wavelengths 350 nm, emission bands are observed in the range of 360-760 nm. Observed was a shift to the left with increasing treatment temperature. According to the ZrO2 emission spectra calcined at 400°C and 500°C show blue emission and the sample treated at 600 ° C emits green. The electronic transitions that occur between the valence band and the conduction band of ZrO2 are type (O2-) p → d (Zr/'4+), which generated by a non-radiative sequence relaxations of localized electrons in the conduction band to band recombination within the 'band gap' and subsequently decreasing to the valence band. The ZrO2 material showed blue and green photoluminescence with high intensity. (author)
