The void superlattice in fluorite

  • 1. Copenhagen Univ. (Denmark). H.C. Oersted Inst.

Description

Experiments are reported which show that the superlattice formed in fluorite under radiolytic irradiation conditions in the TEM can from its contrast behaviour be identified as an anion void superlattice. Its structure is simple cubic with axes commensurate with the axes of the matrix. Its formation is ascribed to the operation of the Foreman mechanism and it is suggested that the Vsub(K) centre diffusing linearly along the close-packed <100> anion rows plays the role of the required anion interstitial.
