An Implementation of Turbulence Models into a Computational Code for Two-Phase Flows

Description

A component scale thermal hydraulic analysis code, CUPID (Component Unstructured Program for Interfacial Dynamics), is being developed fort the analysis of components of a nuclear reactor, such as reactor vessel, steam generator, containment, etc. It adopted three-dimensional, transient, two phase and three-field model. In order to develop the numerical schemes for the three-field model, various numerical schemes have been examined including the SMAS, semi-implicit ICE, SIMPLE. However, the turbulence models were not considered in the current CUPID code. In this study, the turbulence models are implemented into the CUPID and the results were discussed. First, the turbulence models for single phase flows were reviewed. The zero equation model, wall function, two-equation model were reviewed. Then, the turbulence models for two-phase flows were reviewed. Finally, the turbulence models for CUPID code were arranged. A single phase flow at the 2- dimensional plate was simulated to evaluate CUPID code implemented turbulence models. The turbulence models for two-phase flow will be implemented and evaluated based upon this study
