Description
Preliminary efforts at modelling effluent concentrations from the mixed-bed ion-exchange units at Oldbury Power Station indicated good agreement for sodium throw, but predicted early breakthrough for morpholine. Modelling improvements that include a non-dissociated (un-protonated) morpholine reaction with cation exchange sites have been proposed. This paper presents a discussion of the proposed modelling changes and comparisons of model predictions for industrial operating conditions. A model that can predict accurately the effluent concentrations for both the amine and the primary ionic contaminants can be used to analyze potential operating conditions and the timing for resin regeneration. Simulations, within constraints supplied by the plant chemist, can be performed and evaluated without on-line trial and error. A series of computer runs within these constraints will be presented and their potential impact on Oldbury operation evaluated. (Author)
