Kinetic coefficients in inelastic high energy proton-nucleus scattering

Description
General expressions for the friction and diffusion coefficients for high energy proton-nucleus collisions are derived from an exact collisional description of the proton dynamics. Analytical expressions for both coefficients in nuclear matter are given. For low momentum transfers the Pauli blocking inhibites the friction and diffusion processes and this corresponds to the more realistic situations for proton incident energies ∼1 GeV. Results are compared with the ones derived within the context of Glauber Theory1] where Pauli blocking effects are not considered and the friction coefficient vanishes automatically. (author)
Abstract (Portuguese)
Descrevem-se expressoes gerais para os coeficientes de friccao e difusao para colisoes proton-nucleo de alta energia, a partir de uma exata descricao colisional da dinamica do proton. Sao dadas expressoes analiticas para ambos os coeficientes na materia nuclear. Para pequenas transferencias de momentum, o efeito ''Pauli blocking'' inibe processos de friccao e difusao, correspondendo a situacoes mais realistas para energias incidentes ∼1 Gev. Comparam-se os resultados acima com aqueles determinados dentro do contexto da Teoria de Glauber onde o efeito de Pauli blocking e ignorado correspondendo a uma anulacao automatica do coeficiente de friccao.
