SU(7), SO(14), proton decay and intermediate mass scales
Description
Simple sufficient conditions are presented that ensure baryon number is conserved at mass scales that are intermediate between Msub(W) and the grand unification mass in GUT models. Utilizing these sufficient conditions, an unsuccessful search is carried out for an SU(7) model which can accommodate 1/3e charged physical particles, and which also has an acceptably long proton lifetime and an acceptable value for sin2thetasub(W)(Msub(W)). An SO(14) model that succeeds where the SU(7) models fail is outlined
