High-polymeric DNA efficiency under conditions of complex therapy of acute radiation sickness

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Meditsinskoj Radiologii, Obninsk (USSR)

Description

Wistar line rats were gamma-irradiated by a Co60 source at a dose of 750 R and dose rate of 2500 R/min. The survival of the animals 30 days after the irradiation was 3.4%. Intraperitoneal administration of calf thymus DNA (3mg per 100 g body weight) brought the survival up to 21.3%. Treatment of irradiated animals with antibiotics, vitamins and amino acids carried out from 4th to 20th day after irradiation increased the initial survival up to 55.5%. DNA administration 24 hours after the irradiation together with the treatment with the indicated substances resulted in 89.9% survival of the animals
