What are the indications for radiological diagnostics in chronic venous insufficiency

The chronic venous insufficiency includes only two important indications to the phlebography or its isotopical alternatives. Normally are methods without a radiation load - i.e. the doppler sonographie, the plethysmography, rheography etc. - preferable. Firstly the phlebography is indicated in the planning stage of a vein operation. The demonstration of the insufficiency points of the trunc varicosis as well as of the vena perforantes is here decisive. The second indication is the deep venous thrombosis. The localization and the extension decide about a fibrinolysis or a thrombectomy. The isotopical methods i.e. the isotopephlebography and the iodine fibrinogen test are valuable in cases of an allergy against the iodione containing X-ray contrast medium. Furthermore the phlebography is the best suited method to control the therapeutical effect and the further course of the venous disease. (orig.)
