Exponential biasing - an update
Creators

Description
The important issues underlying the technique of exponential biasing employed for variance reduction in Monte Carlo simulation of radiation transport through thick shields are brought out. These pertain to: 1) optimal biasing, 2) weight fluctuations, consequences, and remedies, and 3) statistical error estimation and its reliability. This paper provides an update on the status of our understanding of deep penetration problems in general and exponential biasing in particular. (author). 35 refs
