Effect of acid-base equilibrium change in electrode layer on electrochemical processes

Description

A review papers published from 1955 to 1977 concerns electrolysis of aqueous salt solutions exhibiting changing acidity in the near-electrode layers. Alkalization of the near-cathode layer occurs, in particular, upon electrochemical reduction of perrhenate ions and upon cadmium deposition from trilonate electrolytes. Increasing temperature, agitation and addition of poisers sometimes fail to withstand the acidity changes in the near-electrode layers. The effect must be always taken into account in investigations of mechanisms of electrode reactions and by interpreting the results of technological studies
