Flexible reprocessing at Dounreay

Creators

  • 1. AEA Technology, Dounreay (United Kingdom)

Description

In the early 1950s Dounreay in northern Scotland was selected as the UK centre for fast reactor work. The project covered the whole fuel cycle - fuel fabrication, fuel irradiation, fuel reprocessing and refabrication - with a remit to develop the technology and in particular to investigate fuel variants. The requirement to be able to reprocesses these variants has resulted in one of the most flexible fuel reprocessing capabilities anywhere in the world. (author)
