A novel anion exchange resin for the extraction of plutonium (IV) from nitric acid medium

  • 1. Fuel Chemistry Division, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)

Description

Chloromethylated polystyrene-divinylbenzene(PS-DVB) resin chemically modified with methylpiperidinium nitrate (MePip-NO3) was studied for the extraction of plutonium (IV) from nitric acid medium. The distribution coefficient of Pu(IV) was studied as a function of nitric acid concentration and the results of the study shows that the resin showed the potential of separating Pu(IV) from 8 M nitric acid medium.
