Indirect Lymphography and its Importance in Oncology

Description
Indirect lymphography, which only requires a subcutaneous injection of colloidal gold-198 with a particle diameter of 50 Å in the tributary region of the lymphatic system being explored, makes possible, by scintigraphic recording, a clear representation of the ganglionic lymphatic chains. The problems of collimation in getting optimum definition are discussed. With this method of investigating the lymphatic system, measurement of the time of appearance of the gold in the blood yields indirect information regarding the rate of transit of the colloidal gold particles in the lymphatic vessels. Useful information is also obtained on neoplastic infiltrations of the ganglia and hence it is possible to determine the extent of a metastatic infiltration. Clinical examples are described. In addition, the authors describe a new technique for hepatic lymphography by the transcutaneous, sub-capsular injection of colloidal gold-198. This technique reveals the anterior and posterior mediastinal lymphatic chains. (author)

La lymphographie indirecte, qui ne nécessite qu'une injection sous-cutanée d'or-198 colloïdal dont le diamètre des particules est de 50 Âdans le territoire tributaire du système lymphatique que l'on veut explorer, permet par enregistrement scintigraphique une bonne mise en évidence des chaînes ganglionnaires lymphatiques. Les problèmes de collimation sont discutés afin d'obtenir la meilleure définition possible. Ce mode d'investigation du système lymphatique permet, lorsqu'on mesure le temps d'apparition de l'or dans le sang, d'obtenir indirectement des renseignements sur la vitesse du transit des particules d'or colloïdal dans les vaisseaux lymphatiques. On obtient également d'utiles renseignements sur les infiltrations néoplastiques des ganglions et, de ce fait, il est possible de connaître l'étendue d'une infiltration métastatique. Des exemples cliniques sont décrits. De plus, les auteurs décrivent une nouvelle technique de lymphogtaphie hépatique par injection sous-capsulaire d'or-198 colloïdal par voie transcutanée. Cette technique permet de mettre en évidence la chaîne médiastinale lymphatique antérieure et postérieure. (author)Abstract (Spanish)
La linfografía indirecta, para la cual sólo se requiere una inyección subcutánea de oro-198 coloidal, cuyas partículas tienen un diámetro de 50 Â. en los tributarios del sistema linfático que se quieren explorar, permite visualizar por registro centelleo- gráfico las cadenas ganglionares linfáticas. Los autores examinan los problemas de colimación a fin de obtener la mejor definición posible. Esta técnica de investigación del sistema linfático facilita indirectamente, cuando se mide el tiempo de aparición del oro en la sangre, informaciones sobre la velocidad de circulación de las partículas de oro coloidal por los vasos linfáticos. Permite también obtener informaciones útiles sobre las infiltraciones neoplásticas de los ganglios, con lo que es posible conocer el alcance de una infiltración metastática. Los autores presentan algunos ejemplos clínicos. Describen, además, una nueva técnica de linfografía hepática por inyección intracapsular de oro-198 coloidal por vfa transcutánea. Esta técnica permite visualizar là cadena mediastúiica linfática anterior y posterior. (author)Abstract (Russian)
