Es gibt eine große Anzahl von Abhandlungen über die Aussichten der Kernenergie im allgemeinen und im speziellen über die Kostenentwicklung elektrischer Energie aus Atomreaktoren im Verlauf der nächsten 10 - 50 Jahre. Danach sind wir heute bereits an dem Punkt angelangt, an den beide Gewinnungsarten etwa gleich ''teuer'' sind. Ab Mitte der Siebzigerjahre sollen dann die Strom- Erzeugungskosten durch Kernenergie immer billiger gegenüber konventionellen Gewinnungsmethodon werden.
