Description

Rock thin sections are used for instrument analyses such as EPMA, LA-ICP-MS as well as microstructural observations by optical microscope. Fabrication of thin section, reported here, is one of the fundamental techniques in classical and state-of-the-art geological research. This report provides not only general procedure but also some ingenuity, precautions and equipment maintenance with visual exemplification for first-time or inexperienced users in the Tono Geoscience Center. Abstract (Japanese)

岩石薄片の作製は地質学的研究の最も基礎的で重要な技術の一つである。岩石薄片は岩石の微細構造の観察、電子プローブマイクロアナライザおよびレーザーアブレーション付き誘導結合プラズマ質量分析装置といった機器分析用試料として使用されている。本稿は日本原子力研究開発機構東濃地科学センターで実施する岩石薄片の作製方法の手順を報告するものである。本作製法には初めて作業する者や経験の乏しい者でも作業をイメージして薄片作製ができるように、一般的な岩石薄片の作業手順に加え、当センターで実施している工夫や注意点のほかに使用器具のメンテナンスについても記した。(著者)
