Assembly of the TFTR vacuum vessel bellow cover plates
Description
The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) Vacuum Vessel is composed of ten segments. Each segment is separated by a bellows that provides structural integrity for the vessel and a finely-tuned electrical resistance in the toroidal direction. The bellows are made from 0.03 inch thick Inconel 625. During operations, they are subjected to a temperature of approximately 1000C. They are also exposed to neutron bombardment during plasma operation. To ensure their protection from bombardment, cover plates were designed to remove major particles directed at the bellows
