Use of autologous Tc-labelled leucocytes in the detection of abcesses

Human autologous leukocytes have been labelled with the complex 8-hydroxyquinoline-stannous pyrophosphate-technetium-99m. The method needs a small amount of blood, about 25 ml. 50 to 80% of the initial activity is incorporated with the leukocytes. The viability of labelled cells is studied by their phagocytic properties against Candida Albicans and enzymatic contents. Results in three canine experimentally-induced abscesses are discussed. Nine patients with doubtful diagnosis of abscess are studied, no false results are found. The method is suitable for the localization of abscesses

Les auteurs decrivent une methode de marquage des leucocytes par le technetium-99m permettant la detection des abces. Cette methode necessite une faible quantite de sang (25 ml). Le marquage est effectue avec un complexe 8-hydroxy-quinoleine, pyrophosphate stanneux, technetium. La viabilite des leucocytes apres marquage est satisfaisante. Les resultats obtenus dans trois abces experimentaux chez le chien et chez neuf malades sont presentes.
