The gas-to-dust ratio in the Rho Ophiuchi cloud

  • 1. Preston Polytechnic (UK). Div. of Physics and Astronomy

Description

The reported anomaly in the gas-to-dust ratio in the rho Ophiuchi dark cloud is investigated. It is found that the anomaly appears to be restricted to the line of sight to the star rho Oph itself, and is not a general feature of the dark cloud at low optical depth. The ratio N(H)/Asub(V) is deduced to be 1.9 x 1021 atom cm-2 mag-1 for Asub(V) < approximately 2 mag, which is identical to the result for the general interstellar medium. (author)
