Economic assessment of biogas plants as a flexibility option in future electricity systems
Description
With the increasing expansion of fluctuating renewable energies, additional technologies and/or supply concepts are needed in the electricity system to ensure that supply and demand are balanced at all times. In addition to flexibility options such as electricity storage or flexible conventional power plants, biogas plants can represent a technology for system integration of fluctuating renewable energies. The future cost-optimal use of biogas plants has not been sufficiently investigated so far. Therefore, the research questions should be answered as to whether biogas plants represent an economically competitive flexibility option and to what extent and with which operating mode they should be used in a cost-optimal way in the future.
