Quark confinement in lattice gauge theories

Description

The author deals with the problem of confinement of static quarks in nonabelian pure Yang Mills theories on a lattice. A simple theory of quark confinement is introduced which uses only the simplest of approximations, and some of the main ideas that lead to this theory. In this theory, a relation is postulated between the SU(2) theory in the continuum or on a lattice with arbitrarily small lattice spacing a, and a Z(2) theory on a lattice of larger lattice spacing d.
