Description

This paper is composed of two types of material: (a) introductory material reviewing certain aspects of soliton models of hadrons and (b) a description of some of the author's own recent work. All of the soliton models discussed provide interesting frameworks for the study of individual hadrons and, perhaps, for the refinement of one's understanding of how nucleons behave inside nuclei. It is difficult to imagine that, without major unanticipated breakthroughs, these models will ever lead to genuine tests of QCD; there are just too many uncontrolled approximations that one is forced to make along the way. Nevertheless, if work on these models continues, one may hope ultimately to be able to use them with enough confidence to predict new properties of nuclei (such as for example the EMC effect) in advance of their experimental determination
