Testing of type b radioactive matter packings. Theoretical study of the deformation of a cylindrical container after a fall

The packings used for transporting highly radioactive materials, irradiated fuels for example, are usually made up in France of two steels shells in between which lead is cast. These packings are subjected to fairly strict safety regulations: in particular they have to withstand a fall of 9 metres without any of their contents being dispersed and without the radioactive protection parts being seriously affected. The following study is attempt to define the factors of a method for representing the deformation, and to determine the violence of the shock resulting from a fall. It uses the notion of carene surfaces (i.e. of the envelope at the surface of a liquid held in a vase subjected to various angles) and of their podars. (authors)
