Comparison of conventional and high-resolution 2D-RARE-MRCP in the evaluation of pancreaticobiliary diseases

Purpose: Evaluation of high-resolution 2D-RARE MRCP in the diagnosis of pancreaticobiliary diseases. Materials and Methods: 23 patients with various pancreaticobiliary diseases were evaluated using conventional and high-resolution 2D-RARE sequences. Results: High-resolution RARE MRCP allowed for improved delineation of biliary and pancreatic ducts at the expense of reduced signal-to-noise ratio. Pathological findings were significantly (p<0.001) better demonstrated with high resolution RARE MRCP (score 1.65±0.54) as compared to the conventional RARE sequence (score 2.58±0.62). Conclusions: High-resolution 2D-RARE-MRCP improves the delineation of biliary and pancreatic ducts. This sequence should replace the conventional 2D-RARE sequence. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Ziel: Evaluierung einer optimierten hochaufloesenden 2D-RARE-MRCP-Sequenz in der Diagnostik pankreatikobiliaerer Erkrankungen. Material und Methode: 23 Patienten mit gesicherter Pathologie am pankreatikobiliaeren System wurden vergleichend mit einer konventionellen 2D-RARE-Sequenz (Bildmatrix 240x256) und einer optimierten hochaufloesenden 2D-RARE (Bildmatrix 384x512) MRCP-Sequenz untersucht. Ergebnisse: In der Abbildung sowohl der Gallenwege als auch des Pankreasgangsystems war die hochaufloesenden RARE-Sequenz bei insgesamt niedrigerem S/R (p=n.s.) eindeutig ueberlegen. Mit der hochaufloesenden Sequenz (Score 1,65±0,54) wurden pathologische Befunde signifikant (p<0,001) besser als mit der konventionellen Sequenz (Score 2,58±0,62) dargestellt. Schlussfolgerung: Die hochaufloesende 2D-RARE-MRCP ermoeglicht eine verbesserte Darstellung von Gallenwegen und Pankreasgangsystem und sollte die konventionelle 2D-RARE-Sequenz in der Diagnostik pankreatikobiliaerer Erkrankungen ersetzen.
