Some exotic properties of nuclei at high spins

  • 1. Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, CA (United States)

Description

The author presents some of the latest results obtained with HERA, the High Energy Resolution Array located at the 88-inch Cyclotron of the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. These include the search for linking transitions between superdeformed bands and the known low-lying yrast states, and detailed analysis of the relationships between different superdeformed bands. In normally deformed nuclei, some of the high-spin studies are reviewed, giving in particular new information about the mechanism of pairing collapse in nuclei
