Description
The Standard Model in particle physics is reliable but is unable to answer some fundamental issues which implies that a new physics beyond the standard model must exist. To probe this physics a new equipment more powerful than the LHC is necessary. At the end of 2018 a new upgrade will be launched (High Luminosity Program) whose aim is to replace some magnets by Nb-Sn magnets which will enable the LHC to reach a colliding energy of 14 TeV instead of 7 TeV currently. LHC will resume operations in 2023. Beyond 2030, 2 options are considered. The first option named CLIC (Compact Linear Collider) is to add an 11 km long linear accelerator to the LHC and the second option named FCC (Future Circular Collider) is to build a 100 km long perimeter collider with the aim of reaching an energy of 100 TeV. Japan and China may also propose to home on their soil even more powerful equipment. (A.C.)
