Nuclear power, health and the region: health issues perceived by residents around the Chinon-Avoine nuclear power plant

Description

Starting from the observation that geography has paid relatively little attention to civil nuclear power, apart from the event-driven nature of past disasters (Fukushima in particular), the study aims to characterize the ordinary of civil nuclear power, with a particular focus on residents living in the vicinity of a nuclear power plant. To this end, the focus is on the health perceptions of people living near the Chinon nuclear power plant, with the aim of making an effective link between nuclear power, health and the local environment. The focus is on the ways in which residents relate to the preventive distribution of iodine tablets, which makes visible the existence of a health risk to populations in the event of a nuclear accident. The challenge is to understand the extent to which the presence of the nuclear power plant influences residents' perceptions of their health. To this end, our survey is based on a qualitative approach, combining observations and semi-structured interviews, with the aim of gaining access to the life paths and health perceptions necessarily embedded in the territory
