Brain scanning with 201 Thallium. Comparative study with D.T.P.A. sup(99m)Tc brain radioangiogram

Description

Data of brain scans with 201Th and sup(99m)Tc - D.T.P.A. are studied in 43 patients. Some of the results sustained earlier data form Ancri (1978): lack of interest through vascular diseases, good sensitivity for the focalized brain lesions (24/25). But new features are underlined: occurrence of false-positive, intermediary patterns laying between normal scan and focal pathologic distributions but without etiologic correspondance. The quantified contrast is usually better with sup(99m)Tc - D.T.P.A. than with 201Th: these data challenge Ancri's ones. Actual indications of Thallium brain scan are discussed

Abstract (French)

Les donnees obtenues chez 43 malades ayant beneficie d'une double etude scintigraphique au 201Thallium et au D.T.P.A. sup(99m)Tc sont etudiees. Certains resultats sont identiques a ceux deja rapportes par Ancri: absence d'interet de la scintigraphie au 201Thallium dans le bilan des maladies vasculaires, bonne sensibilite de la methode (24/25) pour la mise en evidence des lesions focalisees. D'autres donnees sont contradictoires de celles des premiers auteurs: le contraste est en general meilleur avec le D.T.P.A. sup(99m)Tc (lorsque les lesions sont mises en evidence par les deux methodes), d'autres enfin sont nouvelles, comme l'existence possible de faux-positifs, ou la possibilite de distribution du Thallium intermediaires entre l'aspect normal et le foyer pathologique bien defini. Ces distributions ne sont cependant pas caracteristiques d'etiologies determinees. Les eventuelles indications de la scintigraphie cerebrale au 201Thallium sont discutees a la lumiere de ces resultats
