A method to isolated bodies containing radioactive material in the bedrock for long-time storage
Description
A method is proposed to surround capsules containing reprocessed radioactive waste or spent fuel with a material which prevents groundwater from reaching the capsules. The material, with magnesium oxide as its main component, has a porous structure and reacts with water through swelling forming a plastically deformable outer layer. (LE)
