A radiochemical investigation of YbCl3-(AlCl3)sub(n) complexes in the gas phase

Description
The vapour densities of complex species in the YbCl3/AlCl3 system were investigated by using tracer 169Yb. The results obtained allowed a description of the equilibria in the vapour phase in the temperature range from 500 to 1000 K. The equilibrium constants according to YbCl3(s) + nsup(*)Al2Cl6(g) <--> YbAlsub(2n)Clsub(6n + 3)(g) were fitted to expressions of the form log Ksub(p) = A + (B/T). The thermodynamic values of δH and δS were calculated and are presented. (author)
