Description

We present and discuss a microscopic model to calculate heavy ion potentials which includes globally the coupling of the elastic channel to all non elastic channels. The model is applied to derive the 16O + 208Pb potential. The real and imaginary local potentials are shown to satisfy a dispersion relation to a good accuracy. Cross sections for 16O + 208Pb elastic scattering are calculated with our potentials and compared with ''empirical data'' and the results of a semi-classical model including inelastic channels corresponding to the excitation of the lowest collective states and one nucleon transfer channels.
