Simplified models of source term attenuation by sprays and water pools

Description

Revised descriptions of radionuclide release to containment during severe reactor accidents have been proposed recently. In conjunction with the revised descriptions of release, an effort has been undertaken to develop simplified models of the source term attenuation that can be achieved by containment sprays and the assurance that water pools overlay core debris interacting with concrete. The intention of these simplified models is not to replace analyses of specific, hypothetical, accidents using detailed, integrated computer codes. Rather, the simplified models provide readily accessible, generically applicable means for estimating source term attenuation by water pools and containment sprays
