Comparative assessment of actinide - and risk - Reduction strategy by P and T versus direct disposal

  • 1. Belgian Nuclear Research Center SCK-CEN, Mol (Belgium)

Description

This paper analyzes the impact of the different fuel cycle strategies: direct disposal, conventional reprocessing and multiple recycling with Partitioning and Transmutation, on the evolution of the radiotoxicity. The potential impact is measured according to the Annual Limits of Intake for each of the TRU nuclides involved. Fuel cycle aspects of multiple recycling in fast burner reactors (reprocessing, fuel fabrication, mass and energy balances, residual activity) are quantitatively discussed. (authors)
