Design of injection system for the IPCR SSC, (2)

Description

Through the modification of the previously reported design of radial beam injection system for the IPCR SSC, we decided to employ the design called ''the canted injection system''. In this system, the beam transported from the pre-accelerators is injected vertically down into the open valley of the SSC and inflected onto the median plane by a couple of 450 bending magnets. After this 900 vertical inflection the beam is radially guided to the first acceleration orbit by means of a bending magnet, two magnetic inflection channels and an electrostatic inflection channel. For efficient beam extraction, the injection system must satisfy some conditions which are imposed upon the beam at the injection point. The present system has been so designed that this matching can be done. We have developed a computer program for the numerical orbit calculation. The injected beam was traced numerically by this program using the magnetic field data for the sector magnet and the radial bending magnet obtained in each model measurement. From the present study the characteristics of the injection elements have been determined. (author)
