Channel box
Description
A channel box of a fuel assembly for a BWR type reactor comprises a hafnium portion formed by hafnium (neutron absorber) within a range from 30 to 40cm below the upper end portion of the channel box. With such a constitution, the amount of neutrons irradiates to an upper lattice plate is reduced, to suppress occurrence of corrosion induced by the neutron irradiation. Alternatively, two adjacent surfaces, among four surfaces, of the channel box, are constituted as a hafnium portion and other two surfaces are constituted with zircaloy. Then, two surfaces using hafnium are disposed so as to be situated to the upper lattice plate on the outer circumference of the fuel assembly nearest to a shroud. This can reduce the thermal neutron fluxes to the upper lattice plate and the shroud, to prevent occurrence of stress corrosion crackings. (I.N.)
