Response analysis of the PWR-type reactor building for vertical earthquake motion using supercomputer

Description

A supercomputer suited to large-scale numerical calculations possesses the function of a numerical simulator substituting the experiments on actual structures. In this paper, the response analyses of a PWR-type nuclear reactor building under a vertical earthquake are performed using a supercomputer. The reactor building is modeled by 3-D FEM. From the analysis, the response amplification in the direction of building height and difference in response values at identical levels are estimated with the parameter of the ground stiffness. In addition, a simplified design model for vertical motion is prepared as a reference. (author)
