Description
At the 1990 Symposium, the Institute survey of uranium supply and demand incorporated for the first time estimates of Chinese and Russian supplies to Western markets. With improved access to data from Central Europe, the Institute has now been able to go much further. Its forthcoming report on supply and demand will be the first to give a genuinely worldwide overview of developments in the uranium market. The available data on the Soviet Union, China and Eastern Europe have been fully incorporated into the analysis. The Institute's Committee on Supply, Demand and Trade has nearly completed a new study on uranium supply and demand that assesses the changes in the political and economic environment that have affected the nuclear industry during recent years, and forecasts developments in the supply and demand area until 2010. This paper is based on the new report which encompasses the major steps in the fuel cycle from mining to reactor fuelling and recycling and relates nuclear electricity generation to total electricity demand as well as energy demand in general.
