Lifetime of second chance fission at threshold in the (p,xnf) reaction on uranium-238

Description
Using the technique of blocking the fission products in a UO2 single crystal, the variation of the lifetime effect as a function of energy has been determined after bombarding uranium with protons of 9 to 12 MeV. Preliminary calculations show the best fit for a fission barrier of 6.5 MeV and a neutron binding energy of 6.0 MeV in Neptunium-238. (author)
