Additional improvement of Chrysanthemum using ion beam and expand it in Japan
Description
New radiation-induced mutants of Chrysanthemum, Imagine and Aladdin, are reported. The system consists of ion-beam irradiation, breeding of mutant, and selection of good mutant and breeding. Mutation using ion-beam, improvement of variety, improvement of non-lateral branch, earliness of flowering, additional improvement of variety using ion-beam re-irradiation, a point to notice in re-irradiation, features of ion-beam breeding, increase of mutation rate of good mutant variety, and protecting method of variety are reported. A new variety, Aladdin, is identified by DNA. The floriculture and supply system of species and seeding in Kagoshima prefecture in Japan, the line breeding system by mutagenesis, photo of Aladdin, development of lateral branch of varieties, and program of Aladdin breeding are illustrated.
