Description
Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) is providing a comprehensive, risk-based methodology to the Savannah River Site legacy cleanup project, which includes the managing, treating, and dispositioning of radioactive liquid waste. Strategic facility, process, and program improvements have been developed to actively support SRMC's goal to 'Finish by 2037'. With the new Liquid Waste Operations contract in place, the SRMC Leadership Team recognized the importance of developing company goals and optimizations and cascading them throughout the organization. To communicate SRMC's strategic vision across the organization, the Leadership Team engaged the Mission Excellence organization to facilitate the process of translating the strategy into the X-Chart Strategy Deployment tool. The X-Chart Strategy Deployment tool provides for a disciplined approach to align company-level strategic goals to working-level tactical initiatives. It is a Lean/Six Sigma tool that is used to connect company strategy with execution. The X-Chart is often referred to as 'strategy deployment', and it is an approach that helps companies achieve their breakthrough objectives and strategic imperatives. The X-Chart Strategy Deployment tool is an effective communication tool because it visually shows the correlation of strategic imperatives to tactical improvement initiatives in a concise, one-page document. The visual format can be easily understood by all levels within the organization. Team members across the organization can quickly understand how their work directly contributes and impacts the organisation's mission. (authors)
