On an apparent discontinuity in the properties of giants of the disk population

Creators

  • 1. Radcliffe Observatory, Pretoria (South Africa)

Description

The finding by Hartwick & Hesser that giant stars in 47 Tucanae are 1 m .5 brighter at given B–V than field giants of similar metal content may result from errors in the distance modulus of 47 Tucanae and in the absolute magnitudes adopted for the field stars.
