Description
In a fusion blanket, beryllium as neutron multiplier may be in contact with the structural material, 316SS. In this case, the compatibility between beryllium and 316SS is one of the most important issues. Therefore, the out-of-pile compatibility test has been carried out with diffusion couples of beryllium and 316SS which were inserted in the capsule filled with high purity helium gas. Reaction products were observed on the 316SS side above 600 C. In addition, the reaction layer on the 316SS side was divided into two layers at 800 C. As reaction products, only BeNi was identified at 600 C, and BeNi, Be21Ni5, Be2Fe and Be11Fe were identified at 800 C by X-ray diffraction. ((orig.))
