Turtleback liver on CT and ultrasound: Schistosoma japonica revisted
- 1. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woodville, SA (Australia)
- 2. Auckland Public Hospital, Auckland (New Zealand)
Description
Schistosoniasis in its many forms still presents a major public health challenge. Its tendency to cause dystrophic calcification make it ideal for radiologic study. The sensitivity of computerized tomography (CT) to the presence of calcium and the recognition of certain pathognomomic apparences such as the 'turtleback' are discussed. A classic case and a review of the literature is present. 18 refs., 4 figs
