A critical analysis of the explanation of red-shifts by a new field

Description

It has been suggested by Pecker et al. (1972a) that a photon travelling for a distance L through a photon bath at the temperature T should lose energy. It is proved that none of the 'anomalous redshift' (Arp associations, statistical differences of redshifts of galaxies in the same region) can be explained by this theory. We show that the mean effect of the shock waves on the electronic density can explain without the help of this theory the residual redshift presumably observed during Pioneer VI solar occultation. As for the proclaimed existence of a deflection of the photons by the sun bigger than the Einstein prediction, it is based upon a misinterpretation of the experimental data. (orig./WL)
